Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2011 @ TWAS-BIOTEC, Thailand- Subject: Biotechnology

Description: Fellowship For young scientists from developing countries (other than Thailand) who wish to pursue advanced research in the biotechnology at the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), Thailand.TWAS-BIOTEC Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable in BIOTEC and its affiliated research units for a period of twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) months and are awarded to young scientists from developing countries (other than Thailand) to enable them to pursue advanced research in the biotechnology.
* BIOTEC will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation and food.

Requirements:
Candidate Should * Be nationals of a developing country (other than Thailand).
* Hold a PhD degree in any of the following fields: molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology and bioinformatics and related disciplines.
* Apply for the fellowship within five years of having obtained a PhD degree in the fields indicated above.
* Be regularly employed at a research and/or teaching institution in their home country where they must hold a research assignment.
* Provide an official Acceptance Letter from BIOTEC. Requests for acceptance must be directed to BIOTEC Research Unit Coordination Division (e-mail rucd [at] biotec.or.th) who will facilitate assignment of a host supervisor.
* Provide evidence of proficiency in English.

Postdoctral Fellowships @ TWAS-USM for Visiting Scholars 2011- Subject:Natural Sciences



Description: Fellowship program for scientists from developing countries (other than Malaysia) who wish to pursue advanced research in natural sciences. TWAS-USM Visiting Scholar Fellowships in natural sciences are tenable for a minimum period of one month to a maximum of three months at a school/department of the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). For a complete list of schools and departments at USM .USM will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency.
Criteria:* Be a maximum age of 55 years on 31 December of the application year.
* Be nationals of a developing country (other than Malaysia).
* Hold a PhD degree in a field of the natural sciences and a regular research assignment with at least five years of postdoctoral research experience.
* Provide an official Acceptance Letter from a department, laboratory or institute at USM.

Postgraduate Fellowship Programme 2011@ TWAS-ICIPE ,Kenya- Subject:Natural Sciences



Description: This Fellowship in natural sciences are tenable for a period of up to 3 years at the departments of the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Kenya.
Eligible icipe departments: Fellowships are tenable at icipe in the Programmes of Animal Health, Human Health, Plant Health, Environmental Health, in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, in the Department of Behavioural and Chemical Ecology, in the Department of Entomology, and at the field station of Mbita, Lake Victoria, Kenya.
Eligibility
Applicants for these Fellowships must meet the following criteria:
* be a maximum age of 35 years on 31 December of the application year;
* be nationals of a developing country (other than Kenya);
* hold a Master’s degree in a field of the natural sciences;
* provide evidence that s/he will return to their home country on completion of the fellowship;

4 Postdoctoral scientist and PhD students @ Europe at UIm University


Description: The group is dedicated to studying the biology of human macrophages in the context of infection. The aims are to understand which innate immune responses of macrophages are induced by different pathogens and to elucidate the evasion mechanisms these pathogens have evolved to counteract these immune responses. The pathogens studied by the group include viruses (HIV, HCMV), bacteria (Listeria monocytogenes) and eukaryotic parasites (Leishmania major). Positions are available immediately and will be filled as soon as suitable candidates are identified. Remuneration will be according to German public service regulation (TV-L).

Qualifications: Candidates should have a degree in biology or a related field and are expected to have a strong interest in molecular biology, infectious diseases and cell culture techniques. Experiences in immunology are a plus. Superior motivation, willingness and good communication skills in English are prerequisites.
Time Period: 2 years. There is a possibility of an employment extension subsequently.Ulm is committed to increase the share of women in research and teaching positions and therefore explicitly encourage female candidates to apply.
