Description: The GCA Interchange Fellowship & Martin McLaren Scholarship name was changed in 2009 to the GCA Interchange Fellowship/RHS McLaren Horticultural Scholarship.For one American scholar (McLaren Scholar) annually, 8500 British pounds for ten months of enrichment study under the auspices of the Royal Horticultural Society. The McLaren Trust and the RHS cover the cost of transportation, tuition, housing, board, and an allowance for personal needs during the American student’s academic year in Great Britain. The GCA makes travel arrangements to the U.K. Any additional funds for personal expenses exceeding the allowance are supplied by the candidate.For one British scholar (Interchange Fellow) annually, up to $30,000 USD. The GCA covers the cost of tuition, university or equivalent housing, meal plan, and university health plan, as well as $750 per semester for books and study materials, and $300 per month for personal incidentals and travel expenses to selected GCA meetings.
Requirements: The Students who have earned a BA or BS degree, and are for a single unaccompanied person. Postdoc position in Disease Systems Biology @ Department of Disease Systems Biology – Computational analysis of data from embryonal tumours

Description: The Department of Disease Systems Biology headed by Prof. Søren Brunak works on disease-related integrative biology, in close contact with the other research groups at the Center, and focuses on a number of projects, including kinome-wide understanding of signal transduction networks; impact of human variation on signal transduction (germline and somatic); network association between diseases, genes, proteins and chemical compounds and disease-related text mining of electronic patient records, biobank data and biomedical literature.The ideal candidate should be able to conduct independent and creative research within systems biology, demonstrate scientific productivity, and show good interpersonal and communication skills. The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in the ongoing research projects in the department and will play a key role in the department´s obligation in the EU FP7 research project, ASSET: Analyzing and Striking the Sensitivities of Embryonal Tumours. ASSET operates a systems biology-driven discovery and validation engine to achieve the following objectives:

• network analysis of time-resolved phosphoproteomics data from embryonic tumor tyrosine kinase activated cell lines in collaboration with the Department of Proteomics at CPR,
• the combined analysis of genomic mutations, transcriptome, miRNA expression and dynamic proteome changes,
• systematic perturbations to probe and refine these networks,
• Implementation of a virtuous cycle of model making and validation in relevant biological model systems (cell culture models and preclinical mouse models) and clinical samples.

Qualifications:

• The candidate is required to have a PhD or equivalent degree in natural or medical science.
• Excellent scientific track record.
• Prior experience in computational biology, data curation and data interpretation is highly desired.
• Knowledge in genetics and biology, cell signaling, cancer systems biology and/or embryonal diseases would be considered a distinct advantage.

PhD Fellowship Position @ Uppsala University, Sweden at the Department of Earth Sciences in Seismic Methods with Focus on Geological Storage of Carbon Dioxide

Description: Research will focus on (1) interpretation of geological structure based on the reflection seismic data, (2) development of novel and innovative processing methods, and (3) integration of reflection seismic results with other geological and geophysical data related to geological storage of CO2.The PhD candidate will work within a larger research program with other candidates and researchers from Sweden and abroad.
We are seeking a motivated candidate where a strong background in math, physics, geophysics and geology is desirable, as is documented field experience. Linux/Unix skills are necessary, experience in programming in C is desirable, and using software such as GMT, Seismic Unix and shell scripts is a merit.

The successful applicant is expected to, and should be willing, to spend time in the field, as part of her/his PhD studies, operating geophysical instruments.

Time Period: 4 years where financing for the first year may be by a grant (utbildningsbidrag) and the following 3 years as an employee of the university as a PhD student. If funds are available, it is possible to extend the PhD study period to 5 years by working as a teaching/research assistant. Postdoctoral Fellowships @ TWAS- Subject: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics

Description:.Under this scheme, grants are awarded to individual researchers and research units in 80 science-and-technology-lagging countries (S&TLC) to enable them to purchase the research facilities they need to enhance their productivity.

The programme aims to:
* Reinforce and promote scientific research in basic sciences in developing countries;
* Strengthen developing countries’ endogenous capacity in science;
* Reduce the exodus of scientific talents from the South;
* Build and sustain units of scientific excellence in S&TLC over a longer period to help them achieve a critical mass of highly qualified and innovative scientists capable of addressing real-life problems facing their countries.

The TWAS Research Grants Programme in Basic Sciences complements that of the International Foundation for Science (IFS). The two organizations maintain close contact to ensure the complementarity of the two schemes and to avoid duplication.

Please note that the TWAS Research Grants Programme supports research in the basic sciences. Proposals focusing on more applied research should be submitted to IFS. Thus, projects submitted to TWAS that relate to applications in agriculture or medicine or that use existing techniques to screen, for example, medicinal plants for bioactive substances or to monitor an environment for pollutants will be rejected.

Eligibility Individual applicants must be nationals of developing countries. They must hold a PhD, be at the beginning of their careers, but already have some research experience. They must hold a position at a university or research institution in one of the 80 S&TLCs. As a general rule, the grants are awarded to competent scientists under the age of 45 years.

Applying research units must be led by a renowned researcher who is a national of a developing country, who holds a PhD and who has good research experience. The research unit must operate within a university or a research institution in one of the 80 S&TLCs and consist of a core number of research scientists, postgraduate students and technicians. There is no age limit for unit leaders.

Individual scientists and research unit leaders who submit a satisfactory final report on a previous grant may apply for a renewal.
