Description: The GCA Interchange Fellowship & Martin McLaren Scholarship name was changed in 2009 to the GCA Interchange Fellowship/RHS McLaren Horticultural Scholarship.For one American scholar (McLaren Scholar) annually, 8500 British pounds for ten months of enrichment study under the auspices of the Royal Horticultural Society. The McLaren Trust and the RHS cover the cost of transportation, tuition, housing, board, and an allowance for personal needs during the American student’s academic year in Great Britain. The GCA makes travel arrangements to the U.K. Any additional funds for personal expenses exceeding the allowance are supplied by the candidate.For one British scholar (Interchange Fellow) annually, up to $30,000 USD. The GCA covers the cost of tuition, university or equivalent housing, meal plan, and university health plan, as well as $750 per semester for books and study materials, and $300 per month for personal incidentals and travel expenses to selected GCA meetings.
Requirements: The Students who have earned a BA or BS degree, and are for a single unaccompanied person. Applicants must be 26 or younger because of the age limit on student travel vouchers in Great Britain and Europe. Selected finalists must attend a required interview at their own expense and will be notified of the time and place.

PhD scholarship @ DTU, Denmark in development of functionally graded materials for thermoelectric devices


Description: The Fuel Cells and Solid State Chemistry Division at Risø DTU is seeking a Ph.D. student to develop graded thermoelectric materials with optimized properties over a broad temperature range for use in conversion of heat into electricity.This will take place at the international front line in collaboration between Risø DTU and four leading laboratories in Denmark, Japan and the US, while industry participation ensures strong links to both technology providers and end-users.A major challenge in thermoelectric materials development is to combine a number of materials belonging to different families of materials together in order to improve the conversion efficiency and to expand the working temperature range of the thermoelectric device. The project is focussed on the construction and optimization of p- and n-type segments over a broad temperature range by graded materials. This will be done in order to improve the so-called compatibility factor between the materials in each leg. The materials are chosen among the best of state-of-the-art materials and the novel developed thermoelectric oxides.
Requirements: Candidates should have -Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, materials science or similar
  • Knowledge in synthesis of inorganic materials preferably oxides
  • Prior knowledge in the area of thermoelectricity is beneficial
  • Experience with experimental methods for materials characterization
  • Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks, and to be a part of a large, dynamical group

Saltire Scholarships @ Scotland


Description: Scotland’s Saltire Scholarships (SSS) is a substantial programme of scholarships, offered on a matched funding basis between the Government and Scottish Higher Education Institutions. The scheme offers up to 200 awards, each worth £2000, towards the tuition fees of a one year Masters course at any of Scotland’s higher education institutions.The scholarships are designed to support the promotion of Scotland as a learning nation and a science nation and are therefore targeted at the priority sectors of creative industries, life sciences, technology, financial services and renewable and clean energy (find out what study options are available). These are available across key priority countries:
  • Canada
  • China
  • India
  • United States of America
The scholarships are available to students as part of a wider strategy to promote Scotland as a study destination and showcase Scotland’s higher education offering in international markets.
This is the third year of the programme which was launched in January 2009, nearly 400 scholarships have been awarded to date.

Requirements: The candidate is expected to hold an MSc in computer science or similar. The successful candidate will document (a) good programming/technical skills, (b) experience with advanced interaction techniques, and (c) potential to work closely with the prospective users of the interaction technologies (in particular, the two Danish partner organizations).

Description: Loughborough University is delighted to announce full-fee scholarships for international full-time taught postgraduate students who are currently domiciled (permanently living) in Africa.. Description:
 The position aims at finding novel safe and optimal methods to nowadays most urgent claims against ITS by developing fault tolerant and energy efficient solutions. We study systems such as the next generation wireless cellular communication systems, vehicular communication to enable certain important vehicular traffic safety applications, fibre-optic communication systems, and hardware-constrained communications. Description: This new, international research project involves the study of the copper-containing enzymes known as laccases: Why did they evolve to their particular current structures, and how are these structures evolutionary optimized for stability and function under extreme environmental conditions, in particular high temperature?
The research area of computational protein evolution is of growing importance, because of the need to process increasingly complex information in the search for new industrial enzymes, both within academic research and within the private sector.
Requirements: Candidates must have-* a master’s degree in engineering or science or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree. Both theoretical and experimental skills need to be proven. Relevant theoretical skills: Computational biology/chemistry, mathematical modeling, biophysics, quantum chemistry, computers/programming. Description: This scholarship is funded by an ARC Discovery Project grant and will provide support for 3 years on a full-time basis for a research project leading to a PhD. The objective of the research project is to investigate the biologic and geologic response of the Great Barrier Reef to sea level and climate changes over the last 30 ka by generating and linking new observational data with numerical modelling.
