Postgraduate Training Fellowships for Women Scientists from Sub-Saharan Africa and Least Developed Countries 2011 @ Centres of Excellence in the South



Description: The Fellowship is offered to women scientists to pursue postgraduate research in a field of the natural sciences.This fellowship programme is for female students from Sub-Saharan Africa or Least Developed Countries (LDCs) who wish to pursue postgraduate training leading to a doctorate degree at a centre of excellence in the South outside their own country.
The specific aims of the scheme are:
* To improve access to educational and training opportunities in science and technology for young and talented women graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa and LDCs.
* To increase the scientific productivity and creativity of women scientists in Sub-Saharan Africa and LDCs.
* To empower a new generation of talented women to assume a leadership role in science and technology and their application to sustainable development.

The general purpose of the scheme is to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of women leaders in science and technology, and to promote their effective participation in the scientific and technological development of their countries.

Postdoctoral Position @ Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden in Antenna Systems: in design of antennas and components in waveguides


Description: This postdoc position has one year duration .Depending on the results of the first year’s study and the industrial interest, the Board of Chase may decide to extend both the size and duration of the project. The research will be to investigate the use of gap waveguides in radio links above 30 GHz, in collaboration with local industry and the antenna group.The employed person will work part of the time in an industrial environment, where he/she will learn about specifications and present state of the art in radio link RF technology. This knowledge will then be used to investigate
Qualifications: Recent PhD in related areas such as design of antennas and components in waveguides.
- Main author of several scientific publications in journals and at conferences. Experience with EM software such as CST Microwave Studio, HFSS and similar.
- Experience with research on metamaterials such as soft and hard surfaces and similar.
- Experience with practical design and measurements of antennas and waveguide components.

Postdoctoral -TWAS-icipe- Fellowships for Visiting Scholars 2011, Kenya-subject- Natural Sciences

Description: TWAS offer one fellowship per year to visiting scholars from developing countries (other than Kenya) who wish to pursue advanced research in natural sciences.TWAS-icipe Visiting Scholar Fellowships in natural sciences are tenable for a minimum period of one month to a maximum period of three months at the departments of the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Kenya.

Eligible: Fellowships are tenable at icipe in the Programmes of Animal Health, Human Health, Plant Health, Environmental Health, in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, in the Department of Behavioural and Chemical Ecology, in the Department of Entomology, and at the field station of Mbita, Lake Victoria, Kenya.
icipe will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency.
Language: The language of instruction is English.
Eligibility: Applicants for these Fellowships must meet the following criteria:
* be a maximum of 55 years on 31 December of the application year;
* be nationals of a developing country (other than Kenya);
* hold a PhD degree and a regular research assignment with at least five years of postdoctoral research experience;
* be regularly employed in a developing country (other than the host country);
* provide evidence of proficiency in English.
