Description: University of Basel are looking for highly motivated candidates with an interest in evolutionary and microbial genomics, metagenomics and microbiota community structure.
Knowledge in any of the following fields is helpful: microbiology, bio-informatics,
population genetics, experimental evolutionary ecology, metagenomics and
evolutionary genomics
Language of work: English.
Starting dates: From April 2011 onwards.

Doctorate Scholarship in Erasmus Mundus in Interactive and Cognitive Environment



Time period: Three years.
Description: The programme has three major focuses, that will be iteratively pursued during the whole progress of the candidate’s track. The former concerns the acquisition and the formalization of knowledge in specific advanced domains, achieved through lectures and seminars. The second aims at keeping PhD students in strict touch with leading research groups that have proven experiences in research activities in basic disciplines necessary for the PhD course in the five partner universities. The latter involves actual industry/academy joint research activities on projects in cooperation with leading ICT companies, typically under international institutional umbrellas, such as the European Research Frameworks.
Requirements: Candidates must hold a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree or equivalent title and in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles of ICT engineering. ICE aims at developing and enhancing master students’ knowledge and skills in order to shape a new generation of professionals able to exploit (and further enhance) cutting-edge ICT technologies to design and implement – in multi-disciplinary work teams – innovative solutions in the ever more pervasive fields of application.

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarships for Developing Countries (JJ/WBGSP) 2011, @ Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University Japan-any subject



Description: This scholarship is offered jointly by the World Bank and the government of Japan. Criteria: Major Field of Study: The applicant must apply for one of APU’s International Cooperation Policy (ICP) Programs, however, the IMAT Program does not qualify for this scholarship.
Nationality and Residence: Applicants must be nationals of countries eligible to borrow from the World Bank. (Click here to see the World Bank’s Home Page for a list) Applicants who have been currently residing in an industrialized country for a period longer than one year will not be considered.
Allowance:  Monthly subsistence allowance of 170,000 yen (*amount subject to change for 2010) to cover living expenses, including housing and books (*see (2) in “Notes”)

#Economy class air travel between the home country and the host university at the start of the study program and one return journey following the end of the overall scholarship period. In addition to the ticket, scholars receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip. (The allowance for the first trip will be included with the payment of the first subsistence allowance.)
Age: Applicants must be under 40 years of age as of the 1st of April 2011.

Experience: At least two years of work experience related to the applicant¡Ã‡s chosen field of study (aquired after a university degree). Priority is given to applicants currently working in the public sector.

(Masters, PhD, Postdoctoral) ISEC Student Scholarship Programme for international graduate and undergraduate applicants in the field relevant to the ISEC conference themes 2011, Chile- Subject- Solvent Extraction Processes and Technology

Description: We invite all interested university students from Chilean and international universities currently working on undergraduate or graduate thesis projects to participate in the 19th International
Solvent Extraction Conference – ISEC 2011, to be held on 3-7 October 2011 in Santiago, Chile.
ISEC 2011 will provide an outstanding opportunity for professionls to share their experiences and discuss the latest issues concerning solvent extraction processes and technology in its various fields of application. Student papers are called for in the following areas:
* Treatment of dissolved metals in liquid solutions
* Solvent extraction processes, including physiochemical aspects
* Analytical techniques and methods
* Research and development relating to new extractants and extraction systems
* Process chemistry and engineering, including industrial aspects and automated control
To be considered for a scholarship, candidates must send an extended abstract of their thesis in English, in a MS Word file with a maximum of 2 pages.
Eligibility: * You are a full time undergraduate (last year) or graduate (Master or PhD) studen at a Chilean or foreign fully accredited university
* You are pursuing a degree in the career programmes relevant to the ISEC conference themes
* You have at least an intermediate knowledge of the English language. In case you are selected for the scholarship, you must be able to present your project in English during the poster session.

Postdoctoral (Biotechnology) @ Regional Centre for Biotechnology-Young Investigator Awards


Description: The Centre invites young scientists having Ph D degree in any discipline of science and who are below the age of 35 years to work in the areas related (but not limited) to structural, systems, and chemical biology, biomaterials and nano science & technology, cellular and molecular biology, disease biology and drug discovery. Those likely to complete their Ph D degree in the next 3 months are also eligible to apply.
Time Period: 3 years which may be extended for two more years subject to satisfactory progress, based on a review by a committee of experts
Stipend :  Rs. 40,000/-per month.
