Bachelors Program 2011 @Microsoft University- Subject: Computer science and related technical disciplines

Description: Microsoft College scholarships are designed to encourage students to pursue studies in computer science and related technical disciplines. Students will be awarded scholarships in recognition of their passion for software, academic excellence, and ability to make a difference in the software industry. A large majority of Microsoft University Scholarship will be awarded to female students, under-represented minority students or students with disabilities. Criteria: Students must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at a 4-year college or university in the United States, Canada, or Mexico at the time the application is submitted. Students must be enrolled full-time and making satisfactory progress toward an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline, such as math or physics, with a demonstrated interest in computer science. The student must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 4.0, or a 4.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 5.0.
Requirement: A completed application includes five items: your résumé, transcript, essay questions, letter of referral, and confirmation of your online application to the Microsoft Summer Internship program. Scholarship Description: The work will concern development of techniques for automatic formal verification of and defect detection in parallel programs, by developing and combining techniques from areas including software model checking, static program analysis, and constraint solving.

PhD Fellowship, Sweden : Computer Vision-

The students will be affiliated with the Computer Vision and Active Perception Lab (CVAP) and the Centre for Autonomous Systems (CAS) at CSC. The scope of the three positions is development of methods for image and video analysis in Robotics applications. Position 1 concerns vision based control of robotic manipulators, Position 2 addresses the problem of vision based articulated reconstruction of human hands, while the topic of Position 3 is vision based analysis of human manipulation actions.

These are four-year, time-limited positions and normally include 20% departmental duties, usually teaching. Research students must be registered at KTH. The starting dates are open for discussion, though ideally we would like the successful candidate to start as soon as possible.

Suitable backgrounds for the positions are

•Position 1: a Master of Science in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Robotics or the equivalent. Degree project about vision based robot control is regarded as highly advantageous.

The Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) at the National University of Ireland Galway is seeking applications for a funded PhD student. The successful candidate will join the EU-funded FP7 ROBUST project team in DERI at NUI Galway, which focuses on the analysis of online community and social network content and structure, predicting its evolution and making suitable suggestions for rapid action or stimulation.

DERI Galway is an internationally recognised institute of 130 people that focuses on research in Semantic Web and Web Science. DERI's mission is to enable networked knowledge, globally interlinking information from the Web and the physical world. The successful candidate will be based in DERI’s Unit for Information Mining and Retrieval, which focuses on topics such as web-mining, graph theoretic analysis, social network analysis, information diffusion and modelling, modelling of dynamic social systems, adaptive personalisation and recommender systems, case-based reasoning and machine learning, as well as data management and query processing for Semantic Web and the Web of Data. The unit has several national and internationally funded projects and a wide number of collaborations at national and international level.
