Description: The Human Centered-Computing Group at the Department of Computer Science (DIKU), University of Copenhagen, Denmark invites applications for a PhD scholarship within Interaction Techniques for Wall-Sized Displays.The position is financed by the Programme Committee on Growth Technologies under the Danish Strategic Research Council. The WallViz project is a collaboration between the Departments of Computer Science at University of Copenhagen (DIKU) and Aarhus University, and three partner organizations: the Danish Ministry of Interior & Health, Microsoft and Autodesk. The successful candidate will document (a) good programming/technical skills, (b) experience with advanced interaction techniques, and (c) potential to work closely with the prospective users of the interaction technologies (in particular, the two Danish partner organizations).

Requirements: The candidate should be from computer science or similar, with a solid background in human-computer interaction or visualization. The successful applicant has (a) documented expertise in visualization, visual analytics, information visualization, or a similar field, and (b) documented expertise in user-centred design and evaluation, or similar activities. Previous experience with large displays, for instance interaction techniques for large displays, is an advantage, but not required.

Description: Loughborough University is delighted to announce full-fee scholarships for international full-time taught postgraduate students who are currently domiciled (permanently living) in Africa.. Description: The Taiwan International Graduate Program is a Ph.D. program, started in 2002, established by Academia Sinica, the foremost research institution of Taiwan. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular and Drug Research, Karachi, Pakistan — and TWAS offer fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (other than Pakistan) who wish to pursue research towards a PhD in chemical and biological sciences.Applicants should be aware that they can apply for only one fellowship per year. With the exception of the fellowships “for research collaboration”, all other fellowship programmes offered by TWAS and TWOWS that are mutually exclusive.
TWAS-ICCBS Postgraduate Fellowships are tenable at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) – comprising the H.E.J. Postgraduate Training Fellowships for Women Scientists from Sub-Saharan Africa and Least Developed Countries 2011@ Centres of Excellence in the South- Subject: Natural sciences

Description: The fellowship is for female students from Sub-Saharan Africa or Least Developed Countries (LDCs) who wish to pursue postgraduate training leading to a doctorate degree at a centre of excellence in the South outside their own country.

PhD Student Position@ Umeå University, Sweden in Theoretical Chemistry

Description: The department offers degrees at B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels, and our graduate- and postgraduate students are attractive for employment in academic institutions and industry.. This project is a further development of the energy migration theory which we developed about 10 years ago and is currently used to determine intra-molecular distances in proteins and bio- macromolecular systems.The PhD project is oriented towards the new description of the energy transfer process. The approach is also combined with time-resolved fluorescence experiments.
The project comprises:
- a fundamental knowledge in quantum mechanics
- the development of existing Fortran programs which are used in solving the stochastic Liouville equation in the frequency domain.
- the testing of a new theoretical description against experimental data.

We study systems such as the next generation wireless cellular communication systems, vehicular communication to enable certain important vehicular traffic safety applications, fibre-optic communication systems, and hardware-constrained communications. Our research is diverse in nature and includes fundamental and application-driven as well as disciplinary and multidisciplinary projects. We are heavily involved in the master program Communication Engineering. The Division employs about 25 persons, a number that will increase in the near future, as we have been successful in attracting research grants. Requirements: Candidates mush have *: 1). Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Math, or similar, and high grades in the core courses. 2). you should have an interest in digital communications and wireless systems.

PhD Fellowship Position @ Uppsala University, Sweden at the Department of Earth Sciences in Seismic Methods with Focus on Geological Storage of Carbon Dioxide

Description: Research will focus on (1) interpretation of geological structure based on the reflection seismic data, (2) development of novel and innovative processing methods, and (3) integration of reflection seismic results with other geological and geophysical data related to geological storage of CO2.The PhD candidate will work within a larger research program with other candidates and researchers from Sweden and abroad.
We are seeking a motivated candidate where a strong background in math, physics, geophysics and geology is desirable, as is documented field experience. Linux/Unix skills are necessary, experience in programming in C is desirable, and using software such as GMT, Seismic Unix and shell scripts is a merit.
The successful applicant is expected to, and should be willing, to spend time in the field, as part of her/his PhD studies, operating geophysical instruments.
Time Period: 4 years where financing for the first year may be by a grant (utbildningsbidrag) and the following 3 years as an employee of the university as a PhD student. If funds are available, it is possible to extend the PhD study period to 5 years by working as a teaching/research assistant.
